Being a local in Ipoh who previously studied in the busy capital of
Malaysia, I could not help but notice new cafés popping up here and there in
town during every occasional visit I make to my hometown. Some
coffee or brunch spots even closed down after a year or less. Needless to say, F & B outlets have always been competitive, even in a small town like Ipoh. It is no surprise that there were lesser crowds of young souls patronising these cafes in
this retirees’ town compared to the city, because I have to honestly admit that some cafes in Ipoh do serve below-average food
at exorbitant prices.
However, there's one particular café that I've always heard of, i.e. Pâtisserie BoutiQue which is accompanied with tons
of great reviews, but I just never had the chance to try it myself. Already
almost three years operating, I was convinced that I was set for a mind blowing
experience.
Tucked in a corner of a row of old revamped shop houses, its reclusive looking entrance hidden behind a curtain of green climbing plants, displays only a humble signboard to welcome its patrons. Upon entering into the building, the busy café scene greeted me with much merriment. You may take a seat at Artisan next door, which is also owned by Pâtisserie BoutiQue. The cozy and vintage atmosphere gives fellow patrons the comfort and warmth while dining in with friends and family or having a coffee date.
The Parisian-themed café features many French elements, such as Eiffel
tower figurines and mural. Above the French style windows, the word “Gateux”
was artistically painted. The word means “cake” in French, and that points to
the café’s specialty in bakery. The cakes and pastries were displayed at the
counter. However, my friends and I were more interested in having our main
courses instead, as the choices available were very limited at the time. They were
probably still sitting in the oven. The menu was
written all over the wall behind the counter. My friend and I were in the mood for
sandwiches and croissants. So, we shared the two types of dishes. Thus, we ordered
Chicken Ham, Omelette & Cheese and the All Day Big Breakfast.
The large plate full of goodness arrived and set our
mood and appetite into
a ravenous frenzy. The All Day Big Breakfast features a
brown crispy croissant with the fluffy scrambled eggs sitting beside it.
Opposite the croissant, two slices of glorious smoked salmon and a slice of
chicken ham resting on the plate. To complete it, sautéed mushrooms and
tomatoes topped the dish.
All Day Big Breakfast (RM18)
I love how perfectly well the salmon was cooked. Smoked salmon is my
second most preferable way of eating salmon, after sashimi.
As a salmon lover, I am truly impressed! The freshly baked croissant goes well
with almost everything else on the platter. The scrambled eggs were perfectly
done too. It had the right amount of moisture and its texture was amazingly
smooth.

The two slices of wholemeal bread was topped with the golden yellow omelette and two slices of neatly folded chicken ham. At its side, the fresh garden salad balanced the main course well. The chicken ham was slightly salty, not too much to my liking, but the taste was made balanced by the bread. The sandwich indeed goes well with the delicious omelette in the middle.

Iced lemon tea RM 10
Took a sip of their iced lemon tea and its taste was intense, yet
invigorating. Absolutely wonderful for a sunny day.
The smoked duck carbonara spaghetti ordered by my friend. The pasta
here in Pâtisserie BoutiQue is well recommended too. Maybe next time. Will definitely
be back for many other items on the menu too, especially their signature
desserts and jacket potatoes!
